Respect Birth - Have Your Baby at Home with a Midwife
Birth is natural and normal.
But birth commands our respect.
One of the first and easiest ways to respect birth is to birth at home with a trained, competent midwife.
We need knowledge and resources to educate us so that we can feel comfortable with the “ranges of normal” and not be upset, scared or discouraged by what we may be experiencing.
We need to respect the awesomeness of birth, and the unique way it is experienced by each mother and baby. We cannot predict or control birth but we can educate ourselves so that we can truly trust in our body’s ability to do this amazing thing.
How we respect birth by birthing at home:
- not rushing or interfering with birth
- respecting that each woman is unique and each baby needs to be born in it’s own way and at it’s right time
- by acknowledging that taking care of our pregnant bodies (nutrition, exercise) is the best way to honor normal, natural birth at home
- honoring mom as the orchestrator of her labor and birth, acknowledging the family support and presence as vital to bonding
- not interfering with the mother/baby bond. The moments after birth are critical and extraordinarily special.
- honoring that natural does not mean perfect
- valuing the mother’s intuition as the ultimate indicator of well-being
