Am I the midwife for you?
Are you committed?
To birth at home, your body and mind must be completely committed. My prenatal guidance will help you prepare emotionally, physically, mentally and even practically in getting yourselves and your home ready for the birth. (I currently offer this care under the supervision of licensed midwife/CPM, Shell Walker.)
We will learn and talk about the basics of what to expect, both for you and your partner. The only prerequisite I have is that you believe your home is the right place for you and for your baby to be born. It does not guarantee a perfect birth, but a birth that you will take complete responsibility for, and most likely, a birth you will completely cherish.
My philosophy as a midwife is relatively simple.
I believe passionately and wholeheartedly that women have everything they need to have a healthy, wonderful and spiritual (if they choose) pregnancy and birth experience.
I see my role as truly being “with woman”-walking with you on your journey and offering you the love, support, information and guidance you need to have the optimum experience and to make the best choices for you. There is nothing more exciting than seeing a woman blossom throughout the course of her pregnancy and birth- both physically, spiritually and emotionally!
My goal goes beyond a “healthy mom and baby”. A safe, non-interventive birth at home will affect a child (personality, outlook on life, feelings of contentment) for the rest of his life. The mother’s feelings of acheivement for her and her child will give her strength and self-confidence she may not know she had. Birth is so much more than one day, and by birthing at home we have the power to affect the generations to come in one of the most meaningful, positive ways I know how.
You are in control.
I strive to remain positive, supportive, compassionate and encouraging in my teaching and care. But when it comes down to it, you must have a sense of responsibility to and a respect for birth. We’ll go from there, and grow and learn together as you plan for one of the most life-changing experiences you’ll ever have.
